MWC 2019: Your Survival Guide
Barcelona: home to the largest and most cutting-edge mobile technology conference in the world, the GSMA Mobile World Congress.
Mobile World Congress 2019: will take place from the 25th to the 28th February in the city’s Fira Montjuïc and Fira Gran Via conference venues. The event brings together the biggest names in the mobile tech space - and for 2019 it’s all about “Intelligent Connectivity”.
Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned MWC veteran, with the event hosting well over 100,000 visitors, it’s important to be well prepared and plan your trip to Barcelona in advance of the Mobile World Congress.
To help you get the most from your experience, we’ve put together the following survival guide for MWC19.
What to See at MWC19
It’s a good idea to collect your conference badge in the airport when you touch down at BCN, so that when you arrive at the conference centre you can dive straight in. GSMA will send you an email a week before the event with details on how to collect your badge, and one of the options is to collect it from their team at the airport. Just make sure to keep a copy of that email, as they’ll scan the QR code to validate your identity.
The congress is spread across eight exhibition halls, divided into different zones and pavilions. It’s a good idea to familiarise yourself with these in advance so that you can target zones that are relevant to you and your company. The conference spans over 100,000 square metres, so if you know where you plan to go, you can save your legs from a lot of unnecessary walking.
You won’t want to miss out on the top talks by global executives, so be sure to take a look through the Mobile World Congress 2019 program. Remember to get the most out of your trip to Barcelona by attending some of the many additional experience events on offer, like 4YFN, which is geared towards startups, Women4Tech, which focuses on gender diversity in tech and Next Gen Innovation where you can bear witness to the latest exciting tech breakthroughs.
At EAS, we recommend scheduling some time to visit Innovation City. Here you will discover cutting-edge technologies and initiatives that are shaping the future of the planet - it’s truly remarkable.
How to Network at MWC
Anyone who is serious about the mobile industry attends Mobile World Congress.
The huge event is a great place to network. However with over 100,000 people, it can be a daunting challenge to meet the right people and make the right connections.
Turning up at MWC with no plan is not likely to be the most effective way to network. Review the program and select the companies that you’d like to speak to. There are plenty of allocated networking breaks throughout the program, so this is the perfect time to interact with the people you want to do business with.
At Fira Gran Via there are several networking spaces which can be used to organise meetings. Do remember people can get booked up pretty quickly at Mobile World Congress, so reach out to them and arrange your meeting in advance.
Social media is an easy, real-time way for you to stay informed during Mobile World Congress 2019. You can join discussions in the official LinkedIn Group, or keep ahead of what’s going on by following #MWC19 on Twitter.
