Things To Do in Barcelona During MWC19

Barcelona accommodation for MWC19

In the month of February, it can feel as though the focus of everything and everyone in Barcelona has turned towards Mobile World Congress. Thousands upon thousands of mobile enthusiasts from every corner of the globe join the great and the good of Tech Royalty to descend on the Mobile World Capital and bear witness to the very latest innovations at the cutting edge of the mobile field.

With an action packed itinerary of talks, dinners and networking crammed into just four days between the 25th and 28th of February it may seem that there’s not much sense in branching out into the real Barcelona during Mobile World Congress.

However Barcelona is a city that is packed full of culture, with countless galleries, architecture, museums and parks. Whilst in town you may want to consider carving out some time to visit some of the city’s world class tourist landmarks and Gaudi masterpieces.

The Fira Gran Via exhibition centre is well connected to the city centre by a highly efficient transport system, so it’s a great idea to take advantage of the cultural highlights on your doorstep while you’re in town. In fact GSMA provide discounted tourist passes for MWC2019 attendees.

But at EAS we wanted to go one step further, so we’ve put together this guide to help you dig a bit deeper and discover some of the best of what Barcelona has to offer beyond the typical tourist trails.

Steer away from the hustle and bustle of the standard haunts and discover some of the hidden gems of the real Barcelona during your free time at Mobile World Congress 2019.

Watch the Sunset over the City

Mount Tibidabo provides unrivalled views across the city and the best time to head there is when the sun is setting over the city and the city lights begin to illuminate its famous skyline.

The Mirablau restaurant and bar sits halfway up the mountain and is easily accessible by taxi and public transport. Unwind on one of its outdoor terraces and gaze out at the twinkling lights of the city; a spectacular vista to be enjoyed with a few tapas.

Experience Roman Barcino

Nestled in a quiet corner of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter are the remains of a 2,000-year-old Roman Temple of Augustus which was constructed in the 1st century BC. This temple is as old as the city of Barcelona itself, having been demolished in the 4th century and only again discovered during excavations in the late 19th century. The temple, tucked-away in a courtyard, can be found on Carrer Paradis and is free to visit.

Visit the Home of Chocolate in Barcelona

Architecture enthusiasts flock to the “Illa de la Discordia” (Block of Discord) to observe its four strikingly different houses standing side by side, showcasing Catalan modernista design.

You’ll likely spot the popular Casa Batllo with its long queues, but you can bypass those and walk straight into its far less crowded next door neighbour, Casa Amatller. This house was originally built for the chocolatier Antoni Amatller and is considered to be one of the most unique buildings of the entire Modernisme era. Be sure to observe the emblematic Barcelona tiles beneath your feet at the entrance before you sample some of the world’s most famous chocolate.

Host a Dinner Party

If you’ve got some important clients from Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2019 to host, our team can work with you to book the perfect restaurant and make reservations on your behalf. Whether it’s one of Barcelona’s many Michelin-star restaurants or an authentic Catalan dining experience that you are looking for – our local team of experts can take care of your needs.
