When people think about business travel, they usually focus on meetings, conferences and accommodation. Yet, some of the most important conversations happen after the working day is over. A successful client dinner, an informal meeting with colleagues or simply the opportunity to strengthen professional relationships over great food often becomes one of the most memorable parts of a business trip.

Barcelona offers a broad choice of excellent restaurants, but finding the right place isn’t always as straightforward as it seems, especially when plans suddenly change.

Last Saturday, the EAS team had a meeting with partners and visited some new hotels in Barcelona.. The day was supposed to end with dinner at one of Barcelona’s best rooftop restaurants that offers 360 views over Barcelona. Just before dinner, however, a sudden summer storm swept across the city. Within minutes, heavy rain forced the rooftop to close, leaving the team without a dinner reservation and with very few alternatives on a busy Saturday night.

The search for a new place to go was supposed to be straightforward: call some of Barcelona’s best hotels and restaurants, hoping to find one with availability. Surprisingly, almost every phone call led to an automated answering system, making it impossible to speak to someone directly. When you’re trying to organize a last-minute dinner, whether it’s for clients, colleagues or executives, all that lost time spent listening to a recorded voice quickly becomes frustrating.

Fortunately, the local knowledge made all the difference.

Rather than continuing to search online, the team headed to a location EAS has been collaborating with for a long time: MR PORTER, located inside the Sir Victor Hotel, a 5 star hotel in the center of Barcelona off Paseo de Gracia and Rosselló

A Hotel that perfectly represents modern Barcelona

Situated in the heart of the elegant Eixample district, just a short walk from Passeig de Gràcia and Antoni Gaudí’s iconic Casa Milà, Sir Victor Hotel has become one of Barcelona’s most recognizable lifestyle hotels. Combining contemporary architecture, sophisticated interiors and an unmistakably local personality, it attracts an international clientele ranging from leisure travellers to executives visiting the city for major events such as MWC Barcelona, ISE and countless corporate meetings held throughout the year.

Mr Porter Barcelona dining room

Unlike traditional luxury hotels, Sir Victor manages to create an atmosphere that feels refined without becoming overly formal. Its rooftop terrace overlooking Casa Milà, its wellness facilities, carefully curated public spaces and attention to design have made it a favourite among travellers looking for a premium experience while staying close to Barcelona’s main business and shopping districts.

For EAS, the hotel is also a trusted partner. Over the years we have collaborated on numerous projects, accommodating international guests attending some of the city’s largest events. Knowing the property, the team and the level of service they consistently provide gave us complete confidence that, even on a busy Saturday evening with no reservation, we would be welcomed professionally and that confidence was immediately rewarded.

More than a Steakhouse

Although MR PORTER is widely known as one of Barcelona’s leading contemporary steakhouses, describing it simply as a steak restaurant would be doing it a disservice.

The concept combines the elegance of a fine dining restaurant with the energy of an upscale cocktail lounge. The moment you step inside, the atmosphere immediately sets it apart from many traditional hotel restaurants. Warm lighting, dark wood finishes, leather seating and carefully selected music create an environment that feels reminiscent of Manhattan’s restaurant scene during the early 2000s: a sophisticated yet lively setting where business conversations naturally blend with social occasions. It is exactly the kind of place where a client’s dinner feels effortless.

Mr Porter filet mignon

The restaurant attracts a diverse international clientele, from local professionals to visitors staying at the hotel. During our visit, one of FC Barcelona’s first-team players was dining quietly with his family, a subtle reminder of the restaurant’s reputation among people who value privacy, discretion and quality. There was no commotion or unnecessary attention, just another guest enjoying dinner in an environment where excellent service speaks louder than exclusivity.

An experience built around quality

One of the reasons MR PORTER has established such a strong reputation is its ability to combine premium ingredients with an approachable dining experience. Dinner began with drinks and freshly baked focaccia, served warm and perfectly crisp with a mix of creamy cheese, babaganoush and another delicious herbed oil for dipping, an ideal start before exploring the menu.

MRPORTER FOCACCIA

Among the starters, two salads immediately stood out. The Waldorf Salad offered a refined interpretation of the classic recipe, balancing crisp endive, celery, apple, walnuts and incredible roquefort vinaigrette with just the right amount of sweetness and acidity. Alongside it, a salad of shrimp, grilled corn, avocado and salsa of dried chili added colour, texture and freshness, providing an excellent contrast before moving on to the main course.

The highlight of the evening, however, was undoubtedly the filet mignon (although we tried the ribeye, short ribs and filet chateaubriand with foie-gras- also delicious). Cooked precisely as requested, the meat was exceptionally tender while retaining a rich, natural flavour that required very little embellishment. Every element of the dish reflected careful preparation and high-quality sourcing, reinforcing the restaurant’s reputation as one of Barcelona’s best destinations for meat lovers.

The side dishes complemented the meal perfectly, such as broccoli with ajo negro and mashed potatoes to die for, while the restaurant’s signature mac & cheese offered a richer, comforting accompaniment that quickly became one of the unexpected highlights of the evening.

Mr Porter Barcelona sides

Rather than pursuing overly elaborate presentations or experimental combinations, MR PORTER focuses on executing every dish exceptionally well. The result is a menu that feels contemporary without chasing trends, making it equally suitable for entertaining clients or simply enjoying an outstanding dinner after a demanding day.

Service that understands business hospitality

Excellent food may attract guests for the first visit, but service is often what determines whether they return and at MR PORTER, hospitality feels natural rather than scripted.

The team remained attentive throughout the evening with a special mention for Sebastian, the waiter who accompanied us throughout the night, anticipating our requests without interrupting conversations or creating unnecessary formality. Dishes arrived at the right pace and every interaction felt genuine. For business dinners, this balance is particularly important. Conversations need space, clients should feel comfortable and the overall experience should flow seamlessly without constant interruptions.

It is precisely this understated professionalism that makes the restaurant such a strong recommendation for executives visiting Barcelona.

Is it worth it?

With an average spend of around €100 per person for entrant, main and drink, MR PORTER certainly positions itself within Barcelona’s premium dining scene. However, considering the quality of the ingredients, the consistency of the service, the atmosphere and the central location, the pricing feels entirely justified. For companies hosting international clients, celebrating the successful conclusion of a project or simply investing in an evening that leaves a lasting impression, it represents excellent value.

Not every business dinner needs to be extravagant, but when the occasion calls for a memorable setting, choosing the right restaurant can make all the difference.

Why we recommend it to our clients

One of the questions we receive most frequently from companies travelling to Barcelona is surprisingly simple: “Where should we take our clients for dinner?”

Our answer always depends on the occasion, the group size and the type of experience they want to create. Barcelona offers outstanding Michelin-starred restaurants, relaxed tapas bars and countless hidden gems. Yet there are only a handful of places that consistently combine exceptional food, an elegant atmosphere, impeccable service and a location that is convenient for international business travellers and MR PORTER is undoubtedly one of them.

Our unexpected visit last Saturday served as another reminder that sometimes the best recommendations don’t come from online rankings, but they come from first-hand experience.

At EAS, assisting our clients goes far beyond securing hotel rooms or arranging transportation. It means understanding the destination in every detail, anticipating the unexpected and knowing exactly where to send someone when a carefully planned evening suddenly needs a new direction, because successful business travel isn’t measured only by productive meetings, it’s also measured by the quality of the experiences that happen after the meeting room doors close.
