According to a Spanish law effective from 1st of January 2015, foreign businesses established in any country outside of Spain are eligible for VAT refund if they visit Spain for the purpose of a congress, trade fair or exhibition.
The attending company is entitled to get VAT reimbursed on the costs of participation in that event, as well as VAT on related hotel, accommodation, restaurant and transportation services.
Companies established outside of the European Union must appoint a legal representative with a fiscal residence in Spain in order to submit a VAT refund application and communicate with the Spanish Tax Authority along the whole process.
The claim can be submitted up to a year after the expenses were incurred.
